you'd expect up if inflation gets bad. but if they really held short term rates low, if "no matter what" was treated as ironclad, than maybe not? maybe a decade-ish would be too long for any commitment to be taken seriously?

if Trump bullies the Fed into cutting and offering forward guidance with high commitment to keep rates low no matter what, do long-term rates go down or up?

power and wisdom don't correlate among individuals. if anything the connection is inverse. wisdom is always hard, but to be consistent it has to be institutional. we need to build powerful institutions in a world made of politically equal humans.

I posted some quotes from an alarming post, but @bananapantz.bsky.social points out that the date the security flaws begins is January 9, too early to be explained as claimed by activity of DOGE. I've deleted my initial post, pending some clarification or explanation of the apparent discrepency. 1/

I didn't notice this the first time through. There's discussion in the comments, but no adequate explanation yet, so I've taken my post down for now. Reproduced here for posterity / potential revival. cc @loganb.bsky.social
