there’s this dynamic on the right where they have these openly satirical websites write “fake news” stories — satire! satire! — so that headlines or quotes can be lifted from their openly satirical context and represented or memified as straight news. dunning-kruger-times.com/about-us/
remember how they couldn’t endorse because they were failing to persuade the public of their neutrality and lack of bias, so it was essential to restore trust?
i guess a best case scenario is what people sometimes say of the WSJ, good news side, ridiculous editorial side? i don’t know to what degree WSJ has lived up even to that. can we hope that from WaPo? some of the journalists i admire still work there. do they become fascist Pravda?

i’m sure planning to call my Republican Congresswoman today to let her know it’s a vicious, crappy blueprint that would cut some of the most cost effective healthcare provision in the United States to finance tax cuts for billionaires.

look. if you consider keeping non-rich people alive to be a waste of money, then medicaid is full of fraud, waste, and abuse.

if Europeans can get over their debt phobia (or tax the effing rich), a private sector depression would be a great opportunity to devote a few years to building the military they now urgently require.

on the left you have people annoyed they can't make rent and might die while they appeal their chemo denial. on the right you have people annoyed they'd get in trouble if they called someone "retard" and broadcast it to potentially millions of people. both sides have legitimate grievances.

a thing about cutting medicaid is it's the most cost effective piece of the American health care system, with the possible exception of the VA.
i worry Trump's fantasies with respect to the Gaza Strip may create incentives among hopefully credulous Israelis to create a similar circumstance in the West Bank.
Text: Progressive taxation is the single most important policy lever for reducing the power of the rich-not because it raises revenue that can be redistributed via public programs or directly to the poor, but because it imposes a de facto statutory maximum on income or wealth, eliminating the incentive to hoard the economy's resources. Unrestrained capital accumulation is the main reason for economic stagnation and the hollowing out of productive capacity. Conversely, as Piketty's research shows, economic growth is both faster and more equitably distributed—meaning pre-tax top income shares are low—in jurisdictions where effective tax rates at the top are highest. When elites face limits on how much they can take home, they use their dominant position to grab less, so there's more for everyone else.
